OK, weird MX guy asking a bicycle question here. Why do all MTBs have neck-breakingly low handlebar heights? Even with 30-35mm riser bars, I feel like I'm craning my neck to see more than 3 feet ahead of my front tire. I am 6'1" on a large Commencal Meta. I feel like the bike is the right size for me. Even if it isn't, all bikes I ride feel similar, from this complaint's perspective. When I ride my MX motorcycle, a seated position puts my grips about on the level with my ribs. On a bike, they are at my...

its definitely a balance, but for me is has been getting a little ridiculous, I am 5'8", my old bike, a 2012 Medium v10 had a reach of around 400, it felt perfect. got it stolen, then bought a 2020 medium v10 29er. reach = 437. with the new bike I would say I definitely feel like its harder to...

The trend toward longer reaches concerns me for that reason. Bike companies are pushing for a change in rider style as they make longer bikes, but I haven't heard a single instructor agree with that push. Humans are bipeds, not quadripeds. I think this is a reason we are seeing so many pros size down/run narrower bars. I have have yet to see a downhill pro who isn't applying "light hands" for the majority of their run.

so one thing people always say is that the 29er gives them more traction because it has a longer contact patch, thus more surface of the tire touching the ground. Is this true or does the traction come from the different roll over angle? when you have a smaller contact patch doesn't that increase traction because there is more pressure per knob? I mean I get that the smaller wheels bounce around a lot more and due to that they loose traction. I do think the 29er "usually" has more traction but I don't really know why

Why is he running the shorty in the front and the narrow spike (wet scream?) in the rear? Wouldn't the skinny mud spike get more traction because it penetrates more deeply? Does he want the rear to have more traction for some reason? It looks like maybe he cut the center nobs down a little in the rear.

First of all, we are thinking America, and there are many other countries that would have less issues with it. Second, yes, it will be tempting but they are coming no matter what, so we might as well start trying to get people to use them at ohv parks , and ALL BLM land, and forest service and most of environmentally conscious canada...Im just saying there is a huge place for them if used correctly. which is actually a pretty decent chunk. I mean if motocross bikes can ride it then why wouldnt you want an electric bike there too...

Why does everyone have to hate on electric bikes before they have even made a place for themselves? Giving what could be awesome such an early grave. I would understand it in the comment section but really? The way I see it, electric bikes is how Dh bikes are going to get way cheaper. Plus hundred of other benefits. Yes It COULD possibly mess up trail access, but hey if electric bikers actually follow the laws, they won't. And the more people that ride mtb/ebike/mx means more lobbying power, which is really the crux of the issue. or government parks...
