Has to do with bb position relative to the chainstay and them interfering with each other. Because the stays themselves aren't growing between sizes but the front triangles are, the lower pivot of the stay and linkage would get damaged by a bigger chain ring because the BB is set farther back. Druid V1 I know has a max chain ring size for the smallest frame as well. I'd imagine the same for the dreadnaught as well.

Well it's a straight thru headtube so being a DH bike I'd imagine the idea is this allows a larger range of dialed fit as you can run offset headset cups.
