Agreed, I'm on older shimano saints and some nukeproofs, both have taken beating, so will probably get the XT pedals when needed, and at AUD$113 cheaper than any on this list.

Agreed. I have a lot of respect for good mechanics, but I also love working on bikes, so only take it to a shop if I can't figure it out myself. I know I'll never be as good as a good mechanic, but I'm good enough, and also a tight ass with a family and a mortgage and lots of bills, so to me it just makes sense to DIY. Nice review, but if you wanted chainguide and xt brakes why not go the Reign 1? Was able to get mine for $2,450 in Australia and you get SLX brakes (nearly identical to XT, I have 2012 model) plus a clutch mech which is so much quieter. Also love the new SLX cranks. Main issues I've had was the dropper cable rubbing against the upper link, and the CTD cartridge had a manufacturing fault. Both quickly fixed under warranty, although I ended up re-routing the dropper cable myself. Our trails have lots of shale and rocks and the wide hydroformed...
