Nice one, but not exaclty a new concept. My '94 AMP B3 had a thru-shaft shock. The shock itself was super-basic, but that was only possible because it was thru-shaft. The simplicity allowed Leitner to CNC some simple shock-parts and bolt them together as oil-filled tube, a thrushaft and a piston with a hole in it. I guess not much R&D went into those, because performance-wise, there was nothing to write home about. But the concept of less hysteresis always made sense. Would be keen to try out, what the new thru-shafts can do.

Somebody else commented on DH being cycling's Group B. For those not in the know, I give you this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INwqyPct8qY -- Group B was rally's unregulated "send it" class. Cars were pushing 900 horse and weighed 2000 pounds. Crazy amazing stuff. If I remember right, the Delta S4 could push 70psi of boost if needed? Yes, 70. I also don't know how many times I can point it out - EWS racers are allowed to run anything and there is still no consensus what is faster. Why is everyone so positive 29" is going to always be faster in DH...

I suspect that the natural frequency is a function of unsprung and sprung weight and their respective moments of inertia. That would render the natural frequency independent from linkage systems. But perhaps @Andrextr can clarify? Great job André, following your vids since the beginning. Curb test is crazy useful.
Good tracks oughta have a mix of everything. The danger is when one starts adding arbitrary elements to an otherwise good track. Kind of a track bureaucracy: oh, there's no straight? Then let's kill the rad tech section for one, just because there should be a straight. In F1 drivers like both fast and slow tracks (Spa and Monaco). It...

Wow dude, you almost made me cry. So much good stuff in there. The waiting for the monthly MTB mag I totally understand, we both probably read the same publication back then. It went on like this for years. Guess we don't wanna go OT here, but thumbs up anyway, man. With this back to the real deal: John Tomac...

Serge-W Added a reply to DISCUSS - 29ers in WC downhill?

1/16/2017 9:32am
Regarding wc, the last thing I'd want to see is a UCI-prescribed wheel size. If you are willing (sponsors agreeing) you can still ride 26" at the races. So let's keep it that way, everyone chooses the weapon they like. That manufacturers may push a certain wheel size, is another story. I'm afraid, in the end this discussion has to...

SEVEN reports?!?!?! Oh brother. Some tools out there apparently not reading directions, putting in 7 spacers and pumping it up to 350psi likely ruined this for everybody.

Hey! wow, didn't realize that @jeff.brines comment was considered rather rash. For me it was a bit of an exaggeration, but a funny one that was supposed to help drive home his point. But then again, that's just me, non-native speaker Wink yeah, I guess we were talking slightly past each other. I'm trying to look at single variables, so...

Haha, ok, now we're into who said what terrain. If you move the ankle on a horizontal plane, you angle the complete legs differently. Probably you're also moving the lower torso (the ass) a bit into that direction. Maybe the word "similiarly" was too strong, but it will have a substantial effect. You confirm that by saying that people DO...

Not really. Ankle position has a similarly large effect, after all we are talking a good bit of body mass here as well. But it is something nobody really plays with. I realize you meant this hypothetically, but precisely because nobody plays with ankle position (and why would they?) shows why CS length does make a difference. Totally agree that...

Glad to read this. Always had that nagging feeling in my head, what if I shorten CS and lengthen the reach to achieve a similar effect. But what you say makes sense in my world. Lengthening the reach should come at the cost of loosing some ability to stand in a neutral position on the bike (no weight on the...

Dude, 0.6" is huge. Put yourself and your bike on the scales and check the difference when, in riding position, moving your upper body back and forth. Weight balance is so fragile, you can easily achieve a delta of ten pounds. Do yourself a favor and check it out, it's an eye-opener. From seeing how much the weight balance changes...
