NuckaMan Added a comment about feature We Discuss YT

Excellent pod and the hosts nailed it. Whatever you think of Markus or the brand, they have built brand recongition to the point a MTB news outlet dedicated an hour to talk about it. Think of all the brands who have unforutately did not make it (and some bought back from the founders like Kona or Revel), it was simply a press release and cataloged away in most people's brains. At the end of the day, it's not overly complicated. It's a bicycle we are talking about here afterall. It's a product that will not change the world or be...

NuckaMan Added a comment about feature Why Have So Many Bike Brands Closed in the Last Two Years?

10/10/2025 11:23am
I am not a regular listener but Spotify put this episode in my feed and was glad it did. It was informative and insightful. In the opening segments, someone said "economics is sociology with math". I have a family member who is a VP at Goldman Sachs. Being a complete amateur at investing, at a family gathering years ago, I asked him what is the secret of smart investing. He basically said, we hire some the most brilliant statisticians and go-getters in the world but the ones who are most successful are the ones who also understand people and societal...

NuckaMan Added a comment about feature SNEAK PEEK - TRP's New EVO Mechanical Drivetrains

3/22/2023 9:09pm
Looks great and very welcomed to have another 12s drivetrain option outside the S-companies. We will see shortly, but TRP is asking XTR money so it better work extremely well. Shimano HG+ works so good, and you can tell Shimano put a lot of science into it with the unique chain and cog profiles. I hope the EVO system is a success. Look forward in the reviews.

I can relate to Ryan’s BMX story. Growing up in urban environment with parents just trying to make it every month, as a child, access to a decent working bike or being able to ride in the woods or trails was simply not a option for me until adulthood. The first time out on the trails, on a bike I purchased on my own, was a bit of a emotional experience for me. The pictures from mags like Mountain Bike Action I used to read at the local grocery store had finally become a reality for me.

NuckaMan Added a comment about product review Turbine SL

I have the carbon version. Got them when they first came out (2018?). It's been through 2 personal bike builds now, I am probably approaching 1K miles on them. It has seen many miles of poor lines choices of dusty SoCal trails (even covered in snow once) and places like Sedona and Moab (including a punishing run through TWE). They still hold true and never had a issue with the hubs. No doubt, I would buy these again.

NuckaMan Added a comment about feature E-Bikes and Why We're Testing Them - The Inside Line Podcast

8/2/2020 5:19pm
I have mixed feelings about e-bikes. I have come to accept the reality that they are here to stay, whether I like it or not. With that said, what's wrong with old fashioned hard work and earning it? So you may not be fit enough to get up a hill or peak....and that's ok. Maybe you have some injuries that is preventing you from doing it....and that is ok. Maybe age is preventing you from getting fit enough to do it....and thats ok. But does every hill and peak needs to be accessible by all....especially if all it takes $$$?

Little late to this party, but here is my 2 pennies worth on the topic. The first responder on the podcast eluded to it a bit. There a place for super-buck bikes. Maybe it's not for the masses. Take for example Lexus vs. Toyota. Toyota's are for the masses, Lexus is the "halo" brand and intended for the top-tier group who expect the best. Technology from the "halo" group is used in racing, marketing and the tech eventually filters into the Toyota's mass market line as well. With that said, what the industry could do a better job at is...
