Just looking at the spec that I can see, that's a fine choice for a 1st bike. Definitely capable for off road.

Welcome to mountain biking! Go get that thing dirty and let us know what you think of the new ride. 3M Mastic tape can be a great way to keep your chainstay silent and protected from the chain slapping against it.
