These are actually pretty damn good. I keep one in the bag I commute with; it does a good job of keeping my ass and bag dry should it start raining mid commute.

Over the past couple years my favorite videos are the ones that blur the lines be riding genres. (Think Chris Akrigg) Don't worry about what size wheel you have, how fat your tires are, or what axle configuration is the newest craze. Just get rad on a bike, any bike. (except E-bikes, screw them)

Any word on whether the crank is modular? From the pictures, the 3x seems to have a different spider, but the 1x and 2x appear the same. Could you get a 1x crank and put a double ring on it down the track?

It's pretty bad down here in NZ. I can get, for example, XT brakes cheaper on Chain Reaction than the shop I work at can get them off NZ's Shimano wholesaler. And that's when Chain Reaction doesn't have them on special. It sucks when customers bring in a set of brand new XT brakes (that they didn't buy off us) for us to install, but at the same time we can't really blame them. They can get them cheaper than we can.

As a single speed racer (retired!) and someone who loves the descents - races are won and lost on the climbs. You can gain or lose many seconds on a single climb, the difference in seconds between an average rider descending and an expert is just a few seconds. I thought I would kill the other XC racers on the descents to a good finish, but instead I got schooled. So the descents are for recovery. With the exception of making the race fun (when you are hating life) and a railing descent can pump some adrenelin for some relief...

Selling direct to the customer is great for keeping prices down, but the shops that will inevitably have to work on these bikes need to be selling them to stay afloat. Sweet looking bike, but their business model shits on the guys the customers will be relying on for the long term. Hopefully that "franchise model" they were talking about gives shops a cut.

Goddamn, the marketing and hype around these has been nuts. I don't really ride gravity, and I don't own a DH bike. Hell, my main ride is a rigid SS. But I want one. I don't have a bike to put it on, but I want one.
