Good mechanics eventually end up with their own shops, teaching what they know to the next crop of good mechanics/future shop owners... the others either finish college or live in an old van with a $8k bike they built with their discounts...

The answer is simple: it's work that most avid riders can learn to do themselves... for everyone else, there are college students wrenching their way through school so they don't have to be a shop wrench for the rest of their lives... it's either that, or they put in their time toward the experience needed to eventually get their own shop so they can make a measly $40/year and pay another kid $20k to continue the cycle (no pun intended). Few wrench for long. All that said, I'd much rather wrench in a shop for $20k than sling pizzas at...

I think this is the UCI's attempt to force the various series to become UCI sanctioned, as the UCI will attempt to prevent various downhill and x-country riders from doing 'enduro' events. The big names like Minnaar, Peat, Nino Schurter, Josh Bryceland, and Jared Graves for that matter. Graves was primarily an EWS rider this year, but don't forget, he was 3rd at DH World Champs. The UCI will play hardball with these types of riders.

No. Part of the appeal of enduro is the grass roots, sanction-free nature of it. UCI needs to mind their own business.

11/5/2013 9:31am im sick of these "test results". Didn't Giant just claim the opposite and due to it not being the flavour of the month nobody is claiming a 26" advantage unless you ride a pump track. Show us the test with live timing, where's the science. Wait that wouldn't sell 29ers would it!

11/5/2013 9:31am Yeah, those "test results" are complete rubbish. 29 inch wheels are 100% not more agile.... as a matter of fact they absolutely slow me down in tight slow-speed areas.

I was surprised at how many of those were relevant 20+ years ago, like my dog , "Trek", c 1992... I no longer use words like "rad" though; wore those out in the '80's.

First of all, terrible commercial... what's with the chick? That said, I think it would be a blast to ride up a mountain as fast as I can go down, on trails that I can't ride my motorcycle on. Those of you that think it's some sort of sacrilege to ride up with the aid of a motor, remember that the next time you shuttle or buy a lift ticket...
