The bike tested in this test was an XL. I am also about 1.96m or (6'5") and we originally decided to test the XL because it was the most relevant to the bike that I'm currently on, which is an XL Trek Slash. That would give me the best perspective of someone going from a current XL to a bike with this amount of reach increase in the XL size. All that said, I really really really want to start testing some XXL bikes. We're going to start seeing a lot more bikes in this size range, and I am...

I couldn't agree more. So. Much. Fun. Many companies are dipping toes in this direction, but none of them have fully committed to geo like Santa Cruz with the Tallboy 4. I think the important thing to look at here is going to be overall fit of the bike and whether you ultimately want 27.5" or 29" wheels. The reach is vastly different between the two bikes, along with a few other small geo differences. Aside from that, I would say the two bikes are similarly capable on descents.

I would not summarize the update of this bike as concentrating on monster-trucking the downhills. If you dig into it, you'll see that the updates are comprehensive for a better all around ride, i.e. the steeper seat tube angle. I do think that all types of riders would benefit in some way from these updates, whether it gives them more confidence on the steeps, improved VPP performance, or simply a nice seated climbing position. That said, the old Hightower is still a really rad bike, and I'm sure lots of people still have an excellent time in the woods on...

Some brave lines next to the cactus in a couple places. Also, good work Dylan stucki, you were hauling. Richie is absurdly talented on a bike
