Great comparative analysis and I loved the video format! However, In my experience the demo has the lowest braking traction/grip of all the DH bikes I have ridden. In my opinion the closer you are to 100% anti-rise the better the grip and control under braking. This is one of the reasons why I sold my demo, that and the pedal strikes from the low BB and pedal bob

@maxxis bicycle, how would the braking grip compare between crossmark 2 and minion SS? What about rolling speed? I have exeperience with ardent and ardent race in the rear. I am considering running agressor in the front and something faster in the back with decent braking traction. I was happy with the ardent but if other tires roll faster and offer similar braking I would be in heaven.

@Maxxis Bicycle , How would the Aggressor compare to the ardent in terms of rolling resistance and cornering grip ?

Yeah Gee! Get a neck brace so you can break your collarbone in a crash that wouldn't have done squat to your neck!

Some riders have indicated in the past that they preferred a certain amount of brake squat (Fabien Barrel) but like Primoz said, this example here looks a little bit extreme due to the the pivot being much higher then the usual single pivot. Too much braking squat will have the suspension packing up and staying in the firm part of the stroke under braking.

I suppose a high pivot is a bit too friendly with braking squat. Both the swingarm rotation (single pivot problem in general) AND the rearward axle path (the axle while braking is pulled backwards) compound the effect. On a normal single pivot when the axle path turns back forward, the effects cancel each other out a bit.

@ Primoz, 99% efficiency sounds overly optimistic to me. Especially when you have a chainline that is never really straight and a chain that is not always super clean. I could feel the slight drag of my chain guide pulley and its on the low tension side of the chain. The idler is a small diameter cog that reroutes the chain with a significant change in trajectory ( large cog wrap angle) and on the high tension chain of the chain. I would expect more then 1% loss in efficiency/drag

There will be more transmission losses in the drivetrain due to the added friction of the idler pulley. Less important in a DH application then for doing lots of climbing

This will be a great way to be able to tune the braking caracteristics as they are usually easily adjustable

Have they done anything special to address the braking problems inherent to high single pivots. It looks like the bike could squat heavily under braking.
