I would hardly call having to cover up corporations' logos as a travesty to sports... I honestly don't see how that's even related to the sports themselves. Those companies like Red Bull and Nike look at athletes as PR investments and would drop them at a moment's notice if their careers were to go off track with no sign of immediate recovery. I think if you truly believe that corporations are a part of sports, like sports couldn't exist without them, then maybe you're not that in touch with what sports actually is. You can perceive that strictness any way...

I totally stand corrected dude and will freely admit I was off the mark. And I'll remind myself to actually do some research next time. I figured any brand association would have been through broadcast rights etc... So I get what you're on about now... I did read an interesting article on the dailymail.co.uk site in regards to them going to extremes. It disappointing to find they're doing that. I'd prefer that they'd kept the Olympics an amateur contest and leave all the pros and any corporate dollars out of it.

Totally agree with you. I love the idea, the history, and what the Olympics have done for the world. The organization behind it at the moment is way out of bounds on some issues. Also, I didn't mean to come off harsh, re-reading my reply I sound a little a-hole'ish. So I apologize for that. Side note techdirt has a ton of great articles about this type is IP/Copyright/Paten stuff. A lot of it I find quite relevant to the corporate side of the cycle world.

I wouldn't call it a travesty to sports either I would call it the most horrendous showing of over aggressive 'enforcement' of IP ever. Where the Olympics ask to special rules and bypass laws allow UK police to raid homes without cause, and crushing free speech. http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20111019/08145216413/london-2012-olymp…. Also, if I didn't want corporate sponsorship why would I be upset about not seeing Danny Red Bull helmet? I not once said that sports don't need corporate sponsorship and should be without them. I'm pretty sure there are a ton of brands that sponsor the Olympics and this is perfectly fine with me. Take for instance their website dedicated to it http://www.olympic.org/sponsors. So your argument there is rootless. Brands don't have much to do with sport other than making them possible financially. My point if you ever cared to have read carefully is that the Olympics spend more time shutting down things they aren't paid for than on the athletes and their fans. In case anyone was wondering why Danny isn't wearing his RedBull Helmet, it's because the Olympics are horrendously over aggressive with IP. They wont allow any logo from a brand that doesn't sponsor the Olympics. They go so far as to cover up logos on toilets and having the local governments create special exceptions to laws. So yeah if the Olympics were ever about world wide fellowship through sport, it isn't now. #WhereMyMoney
