Watched practice and qualies right by the most awkward spot on the course, where Jackson threw it away in both Q1 and Q2. He also seemed to crash within +/- 6ft of this corner on every* practice run, though each time in a different way (*not on the course preview run though). I was a bit shocked that he seemed to be insisting on trying to win the race in this one awkward turn, and completely refused to slow down enough to make it a reasonable proposition. I believe Peaty was coaching him to take the most awkward, shortest path through, and most of the men did, though not Finn, IIRC. (Most of the women were on the line Finn took, a bit wider on entry, not straight over a large prominent rock. - this was near the bottom of the first woods, and the camera angle really, really does no justice to how outrageously nasty that bit of track is.) Anyhow, my two cents after that performance is that Jackson is in need of a mental coach, or perhaps better strategic coaching by Peaty than he was getting - mostly couldn't hear what was being said between them - certainly could hear JG's disgust and anger in that corner after each crash. Thought it was noteworthy, clearly indicated to me that JG's had a long season and might not be in the best head-space at the end of it. I hope he has a better off season this go around and comes back at his best. Thanks for all the entertaining comments/content. Keep it going Vital!
