Anyone had any luck sourcing any Ochain parts/service kits for Ochains from prior to Sram acquisition? They initially spoke on carrying over stock of things needed for pre 8 bolt Ochains but it seems I can't find anything anymore anywhere.
I also just recently split in half the internals on one. Wild! Was once hopeful I may be able to find a solution but not sure on that any longer.
I heard they simplified the internals but I’m curious if you can just order a sram O chain rebuild kit and go for it. Most of the parts don’t actually need to be replaced when you rebuild anyways.
My gen 1 Ochain had some play in it which as odd because I rebuilt it before this season. Turned out the big main paper gasket was broken in half. (haven’t done any tinkering yet to figure out if that was actually the source of the play) I opened a ticket with SRAM, asking if they still had the rebuild kits, since there’s none in stock anywhere. Those kits are fully discontinued, and they didn’t have any, but because of this, they gave me a deal on a new Ochain. Still a little bit of a pain since I have Raceface cranks, but I’m gonna pick up some Canfields and take the opportunity to go from 160mm to 150mm on my park bike.
They did the same for me, which wasn't especially helpful given my affinity for Shimano cranks. Fortunately my customer service guy mentioned that they ARE planning on bringing back service kits for older models with some tweaks. He said to anticipate those sometime late summer.
I can't help but feel like SRAM's decision to cut support for non-SRAM mount patterns was a massive favor to Rimpact...I prefer the Ochain overall, but the Rimpact device is pretty damn good too.
Yeah the gaskets were always tearing on the early ones.
Wonderful to hear about the discontinuation of the rebuild kits. Completely understand why.. but a bummer nonetheless.
Did you go through a shop? I will try to see if they will help with some solution of some capacity. Bummed the middle most piece that the springs are in, cracked all the way through. We shall see what happens
Well, thats great to hear they were willing to help you out! Additionally, the bringing back of rebuild kits and etc would be sweet as well!
Totally - def not complaining about them offering me a deal, just bummed about them trimming compatibility!

I get that though. The compatibility part has been rough. Needed to change cranks this year on the DH bike and kind of got into a compatibility pickle myself. good ol SRAM
I reached out to sram asking about availability of the pre-sram service kits, and they said they would be available for sale soon but in the meantime sent me a kit at no charge. For what it's worth, this was the most recent ochain R, older versions might be a different story.
They sent you and chain R kit, even though they aren’t available?
