Welp its almost that time and like everything else in my life.. with minimal planning and effort its time to try and make something happen, if possible.
Living in Seattle, so very fortunate to be able to last minute make this happen. Probably going to boon dock it in the van somewhere in the area. I wont talk about that part.
What I am wondering about is trail side access and how Whistler is going to manage all that. I read the official page on buying VIP tickets and getting a single pass gondola ride for the day/weekend. That's one option. I am not opposed to it, but I was wondering if they would allow uphill biking on the fire roads, etc?
In my head I would like to put the shotgun seat on my ebike and pedal me and the kiddo up to the top and then just lock the bike to a tree or something and walk around. Then get back to the bike, move down a bit, rinse and repeat.
Anyone know if that is possible? Does whistler allow uphill travel like that? I have only been a couple times, and TBH uphill travel was the last thing on my mind aside from Blackcomb side.

You won’t be able to ride up. It’s at creekside but from creekside village to the finish line is either a 10 minute walk up the hill or the shuttle, which can take awhile. From the finish line you’ll be able to find a spot along the track for free. It’s just part of the finish line area that’s ticketed.

Good to know! First timer aswell and if I am being honest, I am entirely fine with not being near the finish line.
I'm bringing a young kid up as well. Can anyone share what I should expect in terms of walking the track down, after taking the gondola to the top? Is it the kind of thing I should avoid with a 4 year old? Or plan to throw him in the carrier backpack for the steeps? We'll definitely hike up from the bottom as well, but it'd be great to see the whole track one day.
I wouldn't be planning to walk the whole way down with a 4 year old. There are parts that are fricken' STEEP on that access trail, unless they have done some serious upgrades for the WC. I'm talking 'dislodged rocks by uphill hikers gather enough momentum to kill people further down' and 'oh wow the patrollers have a full multi point rope access and rappelling setup on that platform so they can extract injured riders on a spine board from this section' steep.
