Wondering if anyone out there can help me out with some information regarding insertion limits for stanchions on dual crown forks.
I’ve recently purchased a new dual crown fork and the axle to crown measurement is greater than my previous fork, to combat this I just assumed I would slide the stanchions through further to maintain the same head angle. The problem I have is that the marking on the stanchions for maximum insertion is quite high, if I fully compress the fork with the no air in the air spring it leaves a gap of around 15mm from the top of the dust seal to bottom of the lower crown. Can anyone see a reason I couldn’t slide the fork further through and leave a gap from seal to crown of 5mm instead?

There’s plenty of tire clearance to the down tube from memory, I’d definitely check again before changing anything, fork is a new SR Suntour Rux
Tyre clearance to the lower crown is what I meant. Other thing to conisder is if the stanchions are butted, or you are clamping where the air shaft passes
There’s no issue with tyre clearance and the lower crown.
I’m unsure exactly what you mean regarding butted, but I’m not sure if the tube internal diameter changes at any point, clamping torque is only 7nm so I wouldn’t expect it to distort tube wall at that, but I could be wrong.
This really is the information I’m looking for, the exploded diagram of the fork doesn’t show anything regarding stanchions internals.
Wouldn’t the max insertion mark be allowing for 10-12mm of compression on the bottom out bumper and a couple of mm spare just in case? You’re never going to fully compress the fork just pushing on it without air like a big hit while riding can.
Maybe that’s it, I’ll measure the distance from dust seal to lower crown and see if it’s close to 200mm or exceeds it by 15ish mm, that should clarify that.
is it the clearance gap you're worried about? or are you worried about the larger a2c making your head angle slacker than you'd like?
Head angle is my aim, clearance is the method of obtaining it.
