I had been running a TruTune in a 160mm Lyrik with a Lift. Trying to put off shoulder surgery until November since I can still ride at around 80%. Much more sensitive to my suspension and spending a lot more time with my wheels on the ground (i.e., gapping fewer rocks and roots).
This has been going on since late March, so I had already swapped to a green compression tune in the Lift damper. This past week, I swapped to a Noken and tossed a Neopos I had lying around into the air chamber.
I was really surprised at how much more the Noken setup opened up the end range of travel and took away some of the feeling of hitting a wall and made things feel more plush. I've gritted my teeth off a 6-8 foot drop with a middle-of-the-road transition and used full travel (I'll bump air pressure back up after surgery). But I'm not blowing through too much travel on the more old school, natural trails with lots of smaller, repetitive hits that I'm mostly riding right now.
I didn't do any back-to-back testing other than riding things on my home trail that I normally use to establish progression and how much travel I'm using. I just know the Noken+Neopos clearly feels better to me in my current state, and I don't need to know anything more. Also, not trying to knock the TruTune, it was a big improvement when first installed.
Noken seems very well made. The o-ring can be a tight fit the first time you install. Definitely use some slickoleum. MRP supplies you with a little pack as a hint, hint.
My experience with Neopos in a Rockshox fork using a minimal amount of oil and mostly slickoleum for the air spring service is that even a minimal amount of oil in the positive chamber is going to cause the Neopos to go from grape to raisin over the course of 12-18 months. But they are not that expensive.
Hoping for similar results with the Noken that just arrived. I recently got an MRP Lift damper which has improved performance and allows me to get the fork feeling closer to how I would like. Still finding it hard to find a good balance with the air spring and still leaving a significant amount of the 170mm of travel unused; so the Noken should help unlock that.
Will post again once I've test ride, but I expect it to improve performance.
Test ride last night.
Works as planned/hoped. I started off with 91psi in the main chamber and 132psi in the secondary.
These pressures have always been pretty good support wise but would never get close to 80% travel.
Definitely allows me to access that extra bit of travel and feels softer off the top without affecting mid stroke support.
Going to tinker with the air pressure in the main/Suppos-air-tory chambers, I reckon I can definitely run a bit less and still have that support.
