With more people buying emtb's and less mtb's the mtb price will go up. For good reason emtb sales ate taking over. I think 90+% of mtb/emtb sales in germany are emtb now. Thats where its headed. That few extra km/h everywhere except the downs are too good of a feeling. Boring sections of trail are now fun.
I'd have one of everything if i could(mtb, dh bike, emtb x 2, bonell, emoto, stark varg) but i wouldnt be throttle roosting traditional mtb trails. They all have a place. With those places developed there shouldnt be a need to poach other user groups.
As it is emtb is my #1 choice atm. The only close call ive had on a trail after 15k of riding it are from xc hammerheads whipping around a blind corner that i had slowed for. Near miss because of my caution but i guess it can happen

I could see someone with no idea what they're looking at comparing a decent bike to whatever flavor of the month ebike company that is also in the price range and the ebike wins out because in their mind it has a motor.
If decent entry level mountain bikes were priced more competitively (undercutting the ebikes) I could see a lot more people and especially parents/kids opting for them. I'm not a huge walmart fan by any means but their new Ozark trail trail bike looks ok for what it is and if it was around 500 bucks might persuade a few people to buy a bike rather than ebike. I don't want it to be a race to the bottom price wise on bikes, but it seems like room for movement there.
I've also been thinking about maintenance and when battery performance starts to dwindle will this new wave of eriders buy another bike or will a lot of them be one and done?
IDK. In the comments of that video I posted, some people are complaining about the price ($5500) since its more expensive than a base Surron. But this thing comes with a high quality steel + aluminum frame, decent components, and nothing that needs to be upgraded out of the box (plus the motor&battery). The causals have no clue how good of a deal that is, and how trash the base model Surron components are, things like suspension, tires, brakes, etc. The Turbo Levo 4 Alloy costs a tad more, but I'd say it has comparable components. I get they are different product categories, but still, to the normie its hard to say why the Specialized is a better choice when its 600 watts vs 6000.
Then again, the freaking Status continues to be the best deal on earth for a new, complete build.
All good and fair points, I agree the average bike price probably isn't going down and ebikes keep selling more and more. My hope was that trends would somehow change and maybe economics could be a sneaky part of it.
