That was back in the day when they made most of the course out of dirt...
...because you know, it was called mountain-biking. Now a lot of it is a bunch of shitty little plywood obstacles (I mean, promotional opportunities) with lame names like 'the mustache ride'.
Ok scottyl why dont you find the money to put on your own slopestyle contest then you can make everything out of dirt and have no sponsors (I mean promotional opportunities). Until then i believe it costs money to do things like this. Also last time i checked the new course blows the old crappy course out of the water.
Awesome!

you can see both sides of the argument, ya know? like camden said, it takes money to put on the contests and also, wood lips make it WAY easier to adjust jumps to the course can actually work. i do like the "O.G" look of that 2003 course though. pretty raw! rocks everywhere, loose dirt. good stuff. cowan has good flips.
Wood jumps are more consistent rider after rider, and handle rain a whole lot better too. Still holding out for some old school heal-clicker to turn-bar action though!

Personal preference I know, but two words: Bearclaw Invitational.
I have nothing against wood on slopestyle courses, I've just felt the last couple of years they've thrown a bunch of crap on the Crankworx course that really has little purpose but to provide a billboard for someone to slap a logo on.
If you're making compromises on course design in order to accommodate those sponsors, then things are a bit out of whack wouldn't you think? Still looking forward to seeing this year's edition though.
