Servicing Marzocchi Bomber Z2 / Rail damper

It's my understanding that because of the open-bath rail damper in the Marzocchi Bomber Z2, servicing it will be a different process than servicing regular Fox/Marzocchi forks. I'm familiar with servicing those "normal" damper clad forks, but I'm wondering if since the rebound assembly is completely separate from the compression assembly, and and the stanchion basically is the damper casing, there is a particular way to go about it. I've heard the description of a damper service in a review for the fork as removing the top cap and compression assembly and simply draining the oil before refilling and reassembling. That description is fairly vague, however, and doesn't really cover if servicing the lowers can be done the same as other forks. If any of you have serviced or know what to do to service a Z2, your input is greatly appreciated.

My memory from servicing my OG Z1 is that it's just that simple. Just make sure you know how much of which weight oil you need to refill it.

To be clear (there was some confusion when I asked this on pinkbike), I'm talking about the 2020 version, not the older versions.

Since its a fox product, does it have the ID code on the back?

I'd expect there to be a pretty good service manual up soon if its not already out.

I would too. When I go to ridefox.com and make my way to a page that's titled "all service procedures" there are two columns, fox products and marzocchi products. All they have up for marzocchi are two manuals on remote installation and one on how to convert a Z1 air to coil (There's a Bomber cr rebuild manual, but it's labeled under van rc). Hopefully they put one up soon.

Might be worth contacting them directly.

On the flip side, you can just empty all the oil on a scale and see how much it weighs.........

(Sorry bad joke, but a very fun trick to pull on a Jr. Mechanic doing their first fork service lol)

It calls for 20wt oil on the website, so it should be about 20 pounds on the scale Smile I'm in no hurry to service it so when I do I'll probably drain the oil, see if I can pull the lowers off, give the lowers, stanchion and maybe air spring a cleaning, switch out dust wipers / foam rings, then reassemble everything and refill with oil. Worst comes to worst, I send it off to get a pro servicing in the end.

i think it is v similar to rockshox motion control... seal head at the bottom of the stanchion and uses the stanchion as the damper tube. Not open bath.
Should be able to just drop lowers normally.

Edit: didnt look at date posted, just bumped an old thread. D'oh!
