Introducing Oquo: A New Wheel Brand From Orbea

Oquo has blasted onto the scene with aluminum and carbon wheels for XC, Trail, and Enduro, featuring front and rear-specific asymmetric rims and reinforced, angled spoke beds.

Behind OQUO are innovators, nonconformists and dreamers. It’s made of manufacturers, designers and builders who have cycling in their veins. Passion, experience and know-how allow them to understand that the best bikes deserve the best technologies, the best materials and the best personalizable wheels. This new brand is committed to the most advanced industrial processes for the sake of maximum precision, incorporating a human touch to achieve this accuracy. In its quest for perfection, wheels are tested in both the lab and on the ground, guaranteeing an improved experience for the most demanding cyclists.

Wheels form the link between your bike and the ground and can totally change how it rides. Perfecting each wheel for each use means engineering rim profiles, spoke counts, tuning materials, and perfecting the build process. A great pair of wheels can bring your ride to the next level, and for that reason, OQUO wheels never cut corners.

Front and Rear Specific Rims

Each wheel has a different job and experiences different forces, so why do most companies try to sell you the same rim at the front and back?

Asymmetric Rims

Asymmetric rims allow us to make a more triangular shape with the spokes from each side of the rim, balancing the spoke lengths and tensions. This means each spoke takes an equal amount of strain. In short, asymmetric rims mean fewer spoke sizes, more balanced tensions, and stronger, more reliable wheels.

Angled Spoke Holes

Matching the angle of the spoke hole to the angle that the spoke leaves the rim means that we can greatly reduce the stress at the spoke head. Less stress means less chance of breaking a spoke and gives a more reliable wheel.

Photo

Reinforced Spoke Beds

There is more stress on a rim where the spokes exert tension. Reinforcing these areas increases the reliability of the rim without adding excessive weight.

Pinch Protection

On tubeless wheels, punctures happen when the tire is pinched between an external object and the edge of the rim. Increasing the width of the rim profile in these points greatly reduces the likelihood of these punctures.

Robot Repeatability

Our patented robots ensure that each build starts exactly the same way, with the same number of revolutions of each nipple, and the same order of tensioning of each spoke. By eliminating the small variations that a human introduces into the process, we get tighter control over the quality of each wheel.

Human Touch

The final touches of each wheel are carried out by a human hand. Each of our highly trained operators works with our building machines, tweaking spoke tensions and monitoring the result. Each wheel must achieve the very tightest tolerances, both for trueness and spoke tension, or else it is automatically rejected.

Responsible Manufacturing

OQUO wheels are designed and built in the Basque Country. We are proud of this. We work hard to shorten our supply chain and manufacture in a responsible manner with recycled and recyclable packaging. Having all our design, build, testing, and shipping in one place allows us a far tighter control of our processes and the quality of our wheels.

We Don't Do Breaks

At OQUO we believe that more testing means fewer problems. We have one of the best warranty programs out there, but we hope you will never have the chance to find that out. Our testing laboratory is where we start to build confidence in our wheels, refining designs and optimizing builds. The wheel designs which make it through this torture chamber are then handed over to the maniacs in our Wrecking Crew, who delight in finding any weakness. Putting in the extra time at the testing stage means you can relax and enjoy the ride. We have your back.

Mountain Performance

Our performance range offers the lightest, highest-performance wheels for modern bikes, which are lighter and more capable than ever. Wheels need to be light and stiff for acceleration and climbing but equally comfortable and reliable for the increasingly tough descents you will find on modern race courses.

Precision - Finding the perfect balance of accuracy and grip means balancing rigidity and optimizing tire profiles for both the front and rear wheels. Specific front and rear rims allow us to tune rim designs to match the rigidity and width to each wheel’s specific job.

Confidence - Often need to run higher pressures than you want to give you peace of mind. Not with an MP wheel, thanks to our Pinch Protection design. And thanks to our extensive testing and Keep on Rolling program, you can ride with confidence.

Acceleration - Lighter wheels reduce rotational weight, while stiffer rear wheels offer more efficient power transmission. Carefully tuning the front and
rear wheel designs to optimize stiffness and weight means OQUO wheels accelerate with minimum effort.

Mountain Control

Our control range means no excuses. MC wheels need to offer the feel and control to perform at 100% all day long, without compromising on weight or reliability. A damaged wheel could mean the end of your race, or a long walk home.

Photo

Grip - Rims need to be stiff and strong, but by designing some compliance into the specific front rim, we can maximize that all-important front tire grip. Of course, the wider front rim optimized the tire profile, giving less roll, more predictability, and more grip.

Strength - On enduro race tracks, bikes and wheels are pushed to the limit. Our Enduro Carbon tune, specific rim designs, and strong j-bend spokes maximize strength while the bead design maximizes impact protection, particularly on the rear wheel.

Reliability - We push all of our designs to the limit, both in our test labs and on the trail in the hands of our Wrecking Crew. We are confident that you won’t have any problems, but if you do, our Keep On Rolling program has your back.
