I'm looking for a budget-friendly durable hub for my dirt jumper to replace my old cup-and-cone hub that recently died. Specifically, does anyone have feedback or experience with the Halo DJD hub? I've been looking at a Hope Pro 4, but it's a little on the expensive side for me, considering that I would also have to pay to have the wheel laced up. Halo at least sells cheap complete wheels with the DJD.

There's a generic single speed hub that a few companies including Specialized uses. I never had any issues with mine. And as a bonus you can switch out the driver with a one piece unit from a BMX company (I can't remember which one at the moment.) to run a super compact drive train. A buddy of mine used to run 9x18 gearing on his.

I think you are referring to either the Formula SS hub or the Shung Feng one.

Probably the Shung Feng one. It was available from at least two other sources than Specialized. Straight catalog hub that never failed anyone that I know. And so versatile.

I got a set for my homemade dirt jumper. Cheap, simple, durable. A bit heavy maybe, but at 90 kg and 46 years I'll take those extra grams any day!
