Hey everyone, so I was scrolling through the interwebs and noticed how poorly peoples suspension looked and what people where saying about how bad they felt their suspension was working.

About a year ago now I bought the racetech suspension bible and from then on I have become a suspension nerd.
So here is the place anyone can go if you have any adjustment questions I'm here to answer them!
Anything from problems that you feel are having to simple setup!

PS vitalmtb admins if you wouldn't mind throwing this on the homepage so we can ride the world of mis-setup suspension

Is it possible to have a bit more progressiveness on a coil fork?
(with different oils, or varying volumes,...?)
Thanks in advance,
Fabrice

Tyler- your best bet will be to disassemble the fork and see if there are any broken peices or take it to your lbs if you don't feel comfortable. A oil change and good clean could do some good. What fork is it?

Fabrice- what fork is it?

Thank you Connor for starting this thread. It was much needed here on Vital. Suspension set up is a very personal kind of subtle magic. I think I know what I like, but it might not be the fastest option down the hill. Good luck fielding the questions...

Big bird, I agree suspession is a personal matter but there is a point where it is too wrong and most people dont know how to achieve the feel they want!

I agree with all the people there is a wealth of knowledge out there and suspension set up is huge for a great ride.

I think for me, the rebound is hard to get perfect. I want it somewhat fast for staying up in the travel over rough chop, but at the same time i want it slightly slow for that jump with the funky lip that always bucks.. I can usually deal with other settings not being dialed, but the rebound is hard to get dead on. I did just switch from Fox/marz to a pike and boxxer with the rapid rebound, so maybe it's just that i need to get used to them.

Dirk: remeber suspession is always a tradeoff. I recommend riding wide openrebound then all the way closed and justride with each of those then go in one click each way untill you find your middle point then you decide if you liked the slower or fadyer side of it then start at the side (slower or faster) you think is better for the preformance and work your way in untill you have found a setting you find works best over your HOLE ride. The problem with suspession is that all adjustments come at a compromise like you said you slow it down to get rid of kick and being bucked off at laninds and it packs up, vise versa. Good luck!

Fab: depending on your funds and what model your boxxer is see if you can get an air spring for it. If not because its only a RC and not RC2 I would take two springs and try to make a 2 peice spring, it will take some tinkering but if you take your main spring and cut off the amount of travle you want without ramp up and cut it then take a heavier spring and cut it to fit the original legnth along with your old spring. But as you can see its preferable to get a arispring

I found the same issue with the RC. It simply can't keep up in the real chunder compared to the RC2 or new Team model, and it has a lot to do with its lack of bottom out control. Rockshox does offer their latest air spring as an upgrade kit, though I'm not certain it's compatible with the RC.

As long as its a 35 its all standerd tubes I believe (ie the abilty to upgrade to the fast black), so their air spring should be compatible.
