Yet again Portland shows it's hatred for mountain bikers:

http://bikeportland.org/2015/03/02/citing-conservation-goals-city-says-…

So sad. We showed up in large numbers(WAY more than the hikers) for meetings on the planning process. The city workers showed us plans of rerouting bike trails. They showed us multi use trails. Now we're excluded entirely.

Nice house for rent in Montavilla area. 3bd/1ba. I'm over it at this point.

that's rough. sifting through the comments is heart-breaking, considering the people who have dedicated time to that area in hopes of permanent, official riding. also the fact they completely dismissed the #1 sited conservation problem (off-leash dogs) is mind-blowing.

The sad part is the city had two mtb'ers on the advisory committee. Now, TeamRobot may not be the smartest representative(I personally like Charlie's style) but they're blatant about their contempt for mountain biking in Portland. Maybe that's why they chose him. I want to do my part to have their platinum status taken away for the city being a bike city.

If 200 people representing mountain biking doesn't speak enough to show need I am not sure what does. It's not like there were more than 10 hikers or equestrians at any of the meetings.

Gotta watch out for those non-existent salmon!

I've only lived here 3 years and this isn't surprising to me at all. Portland is an almost completely dysfunctional city full of frumpy white people who so badly want you think they're weird and creative while in reality it's Boring Passive Aggressive Whiner Central. I can pretty much guarantee this wasn't about saving fish. I can also guarantee the dog owners got a free pass because they're the most entitled of all the different sorts of entitled cliques in Portland.

As I told Xylan, yous guys need to take up trials and hit up downtown and it's fountains and the office building courtyards. There's lots of great riding there. And a bit off topic, two great Forest Park rides... On one, it was super greasy after much rain, and I rode up that first super steep fire road to the left and basically took at least two if not three pedal strokes to the usual one, doing a slow motion burnout up the whole thing. I think I dabbed three times. On another, I had a great ride one day that took about two hours. That night it snowed about five inches. I did the exact same ride the next day, static burn outs and all and it took me almost exactly twice the time to complete. Carry on...

Trials riding is slow. It's really cool, but it's slow. Not my bag.

There is no such thing as a "Forest Park ride." Unless you were on a gravel road, any Forest Park riding you did was illegal, and was probably on the 'secret' trails up there-- the discovery of which gave the Transgender-Librarian-Dog-Owners-for-the-Total-Protection-of-Nature-From-All-Humans-Except-Themselves enough political ammo to start waging war on all trail riding in the city. We have never recovered from that.

I still love living in Portland, but mostly because it's close to dope mountain biking and kayaking in surrounding towns. The city itself is dysfunctional beyond comprehension and the people suck. Portlandia isn't an exaggeration.

River View Freedom Ride

Monday, March 16, 4 p.m.

"Show your disdain, show your disgust, show your disinterest in a political process that isn't interested in you. We'll be riding Riverview as a large, organized, well-mannered group on the first day of the ban. We'll meet at the top, at the corner of SW Palatine Hill and Brugger Rd."

Not my event, just passing along the info: https://www.facebook.com/events/902083599835462/

Thanks Adam. Might have to take my mtb to work and join that protest. It actually would be even better if the cops were there to arrest some people because then the media outlets would be on it. 4pm is tough though! I certainly can't be there by then.

My Forest Park rides were all on fire roads. This was back in "94 when I was just figuring out MTB and steep assed muddy fire roads were a fun challenge. I loved having the hose available at Fat Tire Farm after rides. Trials is slow, but it's surprisingly great muscle memory practice for handling balance shifts at high speeds. And finally, why don't you all just move to Santa Cruz, where all of the fun riding is illegal anyway but only enforced when the local authorities need a little cash?
