Hot on the heels of Fort William, the second round of the 2013 UCI World Cup season was one of the most anticipated downhill races in recent memory. The brutal, steep and fast course of Val di Sole, Italy proves to be both a struggle and blessing for riders who are on flat or clip pedals as there are only a handful of pedal strokes to be made on the 4-minute course. Once again, however, Gee and Rachel Atherton took home victories for their family and for GT Factory Racing. 2012 UCI World Cup Champion, Aaron Gwin (Specialized Racing) switched from a medium-size frame to a large frame and finished strong with a 2nd place qualifier, but ended up 6th on race day. Not a strong result in his eyes. 2012 UCI World Champion, Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate), finished 3rd, just behind Devinci Global Racing's Stevie Smith, who is hungry for another World Cup victory.
