QUALIFYING ACTION From the 2013 Val di Sole World Cup

The impressive climbing ability of the silver back gorilla. Eddie Masters riding. #nipple -Duncan Philpott / Sven Silverback Martin

The warm up begins before qualifying...

Gee Atherton fastest today again. He's the man to beat...equally strong last weekend and here in Italy, too. -Sven Martin

Nelly approved. Rachel keeps cool between runs with an ice rag. -Sven Martin

Rachel dominated again today in seeding. The incredible support of her team allows her to push that extra bit during her race runs. -Duncan Philpott

At the request of the media, Gwin changed his frame to a nice popping, matching red. We were happy and so was he. 2nd fastest today but fastest at the first two splits. Thats a *large* improvement from Ft William, wouldn't you say? #FUINTERNETHATERS -Sven Martin

Minnaar on the weather. What's left of the loam is quickly disappearing, exposing nasty roots and more rocks. -Turman

Sam Hill was on it. Third at the first two splits then a big boost to bottom out and broken guide and chain and coast to the finish line for 5th. -Sven Martin

There's gold in them thar hills! Loamy gold...for now. -Lee Trumpore

After 3-minutes of punishing woods, riders break into the open and launch into brake bump oblivion. Forrest Riesco lets it rip. -Turman

Presented to Greg and the Syndicate by the track builder Pippo, this cake is an early Peaty birthday celebration, as well as a tribute from one of Greg's #1 fans. -Duncan Philpott

Rennie's influence on the Aussie juniors is unquestionable. Although the warm up routine might be a little more suspect. [sven rennie audio] -Duncan Philpott

Brook MacDonald ready to go 5th gear pinned on Sunday. -Lee Trumpore

Will *The Thrill* Longden, British Juniors coach, looking slightly concerned as he records Phil Atwill racing full speed into rocks and loam. Any footage for reference can be useful for rider feedback. -Duncan Philpott

Crashing can be disorienting at the best of times. Losing visibility means you tumble to the bottom of an 8-foot chute in an ungraceful manner. -Duncan Philpott

Phil Atwill is looking more like an Elite rider than a junior. Speed, style and first place Junior qualifier. -Sven Martin

Innes Graham, 3rd place Junior qualifier. -Lee Trumpore

Cancellier combs the list for the next potential BlackBox rider. -Sven Martin

Danny Hart is in the mix after qualifying and you'd be a fool to discount him after his performance last year. -Duncan Philpott

Danny Hart...

GT's Dan Brown calculating the splits and letting the team know what needs to be done on Sunday. -Sven Martin

Thank goodness for safety netting. -Lee Trumpore

In order to get a shot of Mitch Ropelato like this... -Sven Martin

You have to get down and dirty like this... -Lee Trumpore

Morgane Charre looks natural on the tech tracks. -Duncan Philpott

Rowdy! Stevie smashed through this section like nobody else. Shame we can't bet on him like at Fort William last weekend. -Duncan Philpott

Sam Dale, 1/10th of a second smashing his way through a tree. -Duncan Philpott

Sam Dale in fully Kiwi attire. The XCE competitor in the background was not so lucky in his race. #hamburgerfeet -Sven Martin

At first glance you might think this man has had one too many. But in reality he's at the mercy of an electric dog collar controlled by Gee Atherton. -Duncan Philpott

Two qualification runs and two crashes for Miami Bryce. As long has he can keep delivering in the race runs, he won't be losing too many points. -Duncan Philpott

Two days of practice and multiple runs with Gwin following Troy Brosnan. Roles were reversed come qualifying when TB seemed to have a nightmare. -Duncan Philpott

Missing: Damian Spagnolo, one of the top riders at the end of last season. "Jai ragdoll avec arm broken." Franglais translation from Joe Bowman -Duncan Philpott

Emmeline Ragot slipped into 2nd, six seconds back from Rachel. This weekend she looks like the only one who will be able to give Rachel a legit push for the top. -Sven Martin

As you may have noticed on Vital over the last few years, we spot relatively unknown talent early. Yesterday we featured Antonio Pajuelo Ferreiro from Spain in the gully and today he shot to 13th-fastest qualifier. Keep it up! -Sven Martin

Sebastien Schieck is uber pro. Bodies scattered face down in the dirt. No problemo. -Sven Martin

Lorenzo Suding sporting the Tricolore sleeve and representing Italy. Pinned in qualifiers on home turf. -Sven Martin

Duncan is not so sure about Lloydy building Gee's race wheels, especially since this is his first wheel build ever. -Sven Martin

Mathew Stuttard just squeezes between the tight rocks before the final steep sections and into 78th place for the finals. -Sven Martin

Bring on race day!

Gee Atherton lets the 79 riders behind him know that he's still the fastest after Fort William...for now. Aaron Gwin returns to form in 2nd place just behind Gee and Rachel Atherton handily stomps on the women's field. With a practice day between qualifying and finals, it's anyone's guess who will be the victor on Sunday. Enjoy the photos, videos and audio from Sven Martin, Duncan Philpott, Joe Bowman, Lee Trumpore and Brandon Turman.
