I attended Rampage this year. From every aspect you could tell that Red Bull was putting their own interests first. As a worker, a spectator, and from talking to the riders and team support, there were complaints from every end. Aside from the utter chaos of the disorganization, the priorities seemed backwards. If Red Bull and other companies did not receive a financial gain from the athletes beyond what they receive from any of their consumers, then I would agree with your sentiment. However, while these athletes love what they do, and would likely push the boundaries regardless of Rampage, I do not believe that is a good reason to allow a company to exploit the athletes. They and the diggers are still providing a major financial benefit to the sponsors and organizers of Rampage, and it is unjust to withhold adequate compensation and safety precautions. The Worlds is just one race, its not such a big deal as wining race after race for an overall which is much harder to do.
