Thanks for the kind words! I haven't tried the Motives yet, and while I've heard great things about the Dominion T2s I'm not sure I'll ever go back to two pistons. Now you've got me curious about those Piccolas... I'll be sure to update this review with points of comparison as they arise.

Terrific review, @wnc_rider -- great mix of technical dissection and on-the-trail insight. I, too am a fan of piloting lightweight 120mm bikes down long descents in the Appalachians though I'm sure you charger a lot harder than I do! I've been looking for a review of the the XCR Pro 4s as the combination of carbon lever, featherweight master cylinder, and beefy caliper make the Hopes a compelling option compared to other lightweight brakesets like the Motives, XTR Race levers to 4-pot calipers, Piccola HDs, or (my personal choice) Dominion T2s. A carbon lever is a 'must' in my book...

I think a lot of people feel that way. Some noises like headset creaks drive me bonkers, but for whatever reason (loud hubs maybe?) I can tolerate some chirping from the brakes. Anecdotally, I think the Hope discs are the culprit, and I've found in a couple instances that their brakes get a lot quieter with different rotors. I need more data though and will update this when I've tried a few more options. Cheers!
