slo_rider Added a comment about feature First Look: 2015 Canfield Brothers Riot

Trying to respond to ChrisG [page won't allow me to respond to his comment directly]. devin-m is right: Riot's suspension looks like Banshee's KS link... ChrisG is right: form follows function, and if 2 companies designing virtual pivot/"mini-link" suspensions have similar goals, it's not surprising that their final designs will also look similar... But I agree most w/ Colin+M: Canfield Bros have been breaking ground in bike design since the late 90's. They produced a virtual pivot/"parallel linkage" DH prototype, the Big Fatty Fat, in '99 (3 years before SC debuted they're first 2 VPP bikes in '02), and the...

slo_rider Added a comment about feature First Look: 2015 Evil Bikes 'The Following' 29er

Agree--props to Canfield for being among the first to bring a sub 17" chainstay 29er to market a few years ago. Although I love my N9 (as well as Kona Process 111), I dunno if I can wait for the Riot. Evil's geo and suspension design sound perfect.

hey BT, thanks--i did see a thread about the new WFO, but that was when it was still in prototype stage and it's geo wasn't finalized. good on niner for the direction they've taken with the WFOs final geo: they've shown they CAN shorten up the chainstays while still keeping their CVA linkage, and design a bike w/ a slacker front end... so now they really have no excuse for the 2014 RIP9's antiquated geo. i like the WFO, but still think there's room in niner's stable for a less burly trail bike w/ modern geo: 17.5" chainstays and a...

Nice review, Brandon, but this is what I read between the lines you've written: "...The head angle could be a tad slacker for our tastes, though, especially when things get steep and rocky...our test rig had a 130mm fork and 70-degree head angle...the only times we found ourselves holding back was on super steep, washboarded, loose terrain. " I don't know about you, but that is exactly where I expect an "enduro"-style bike to be competent, and exactly where the bigger wheels' increased contact patch and shallower angle-of-attack has an advantage over the smaller 26" wheel--save the big drops and...

slo_rider Added a comment about bike check Swarf Cycles, Curve prototype

"...High pivot design with idler ..." interesting little detail there for a mid-travel bike. like other bikes w/ idlers (bb7, jedi, superco silencer, etc...), it's a great way to optimize the rear's suspension pivot, while isolating axle path from pedaling input (and vice versa). too bad pics don't show the drive side idler pulley. hope swarf executes this well, without similar problems other companies had (corsair maelstrom/marque???)
