I think it depends on where you live and what your trails are like. My average ride consists of 2500 - 3500 feet of pure climbing followed by equal amounts of rowdy, fast, technical descending. So half shell up, full face down is ideal. If you're riding primarily flat trails, I understand why it isn't appealing.

I really want a helmet with detachable chin bar. I just wish they weren't all designed by individuals with the aesthetic acuity of a blind wombat.
