The least material in the highest stress area. Somebody playing around, designing cranks in Microsoft Paint, rather than an Engineer using SolidWorks with an FEA suite.

No, there's only one real line through that section. If you get off the line it's super easy to get hung up. I have a 2017 Jedi that handles that section very well though. I've ridden 3 DH bikes (GGDH and Demo) through that section and the Jedi just keeps speed through through there better than the others.
