Don't worry, I don't believe in perfect bikes being perfect in any conditions! I know it's always a question of compromise and priorities. But I was just asking as I wasn't very sure of the outcome of "my" analysis. I look forward to giving it a try!

Agree with the first part. But the second? Unless you talk about races in US or UK, you might be well wrong. But Specialized as well: 160 mm with air shock is the key! in other word, the "standard" and well named Enduro!

Sure we're all focusing on weight but I do agree with Keith that weight/tyres weight is WAY more important on a long climb (unless you carry your bike of course!). It's not an opinion but a physical fact. But a low center of gravity will not make your whip any easier. Nevertheless 8.5lbs on a L size (just guessing) would clearly be too much. I want a substential difference between my DH bike and enduro/all-mountain one. It shouldn't be too difficult considering that my Commençal isn't that light, but if I start building up a 8.5 lbs frame I may...

I may have reacted a little too fast... I hadn't seen the actual seat angle which is steeper than on the rocky yet with smaller offset. But I guess it's gonna be steep enough for the tall guy I am! And you're also right about the anti-squat effect which was close to 0 on the slayer resulting in a more compressed suspension and apparent flatter seat angle! About antisquat, I made (well a software did...) an analysis of it, based on a picture (so it's a little inacurate). But it seems the antisquat is really high when using a small...

Damn! I thought I had found my new bike you just ruined my hope with this link! Seat Angle of 70,5 actual or 73 effective but I have an old slayer with the same "effective seat angle" and as soon as I ride in a steep uphill my bike wants to back-flip! Those angles are reasonable for anyone below 6 foot. Obviously not many bike designers are taller than that I'll go for a test ride though. Who knows...

N'Duro Added a comment about news story Marzocchi Facing Financial Troubles, May Close

12/1/2011 10:06am
@ Hansolo: Marzocchi stuffs are made in Taiwan whereas Fox in US. I guess US labor's more expensive than Taiwan? Another comparison to US: the debt per capita is hell a lot lower than in the US despite current problems. I think they just missed competitive (price and performance) and reliable forks in the mass travel of 140 to 160 mm. Shame, but it may not yet be over...

N'Duro Added a comment about feature Tested: RockShox Reverb Adjustable Seat Post

Never had a problem with the GD, though then made the move to a Specialized first generation bought in second hand. It's a great one with the least lateral play I ever had. Putting in pros "infinite adjustment" is a point of view, but not mine! When looking for a lower position to pedal during a race run when you're tired, you'll be very happy to find it easily with a post like the GD or Spesh. I had a Joplin first... well. Not anymore. Considering reliability, the seatpost offering most troubles during the last 1-week race I made was...

9-36 will come for sure... Question is when do they wanna push that? SRAM and Shimano push hard in direction 2x10 so they won't go that way soon. Another player might do that: Hope. That's for sure my next set up. Single chainring forever!

Amazing! Certainly one of the stupidest inventions of the 21st century! Within 2 years they'll show up with new "research results" giving an optimized stiffness for a new standard they'll call Overdrive 3 and will be nothing else than a straight 1,5.... BTW, why Overdrive 2? Has there ever been an Overdrive 1??
