I've been studying bike setup for 25 years and coaching for 21, these are my thoughts. Precise handle height is more important than I realized! Many of my students' handlebars are too high and often we lower them 10-50mm, to get them in a better, more confident position. Often bikes come from the shop in the most comfortable position with 20-50mm of spacers under the stem and riser bars (bars that ride 15 to 40mm higher than the stem).
