The crew at Highland Mountain Bike Park is gearing up for another great 2012 season! HMBP has stepped it up with the addition of a Bag Jump air bag courtesy of Red Bull, expanded XC trails, and a full schedule of events for 2012!

When Dave Smutok first told me about the idea to host a 'Spring Training' style event at Highland Mountain Bike Park, my first reaction was 'YES! Why hasn't anyone thought of this yet?!'. The idea grew from the concept of Major League Baseball's annual spring training, where teams prepare for the upcoming season and shake off some of the cobwebs by holding practices, scrimmaging with other teams, running drills, etc. It also allows teams and the major media outlets to scout some of the up-and-coming talent in the sport. Adam Hauck shreds some of his favorite trails at Highland Mountain Bike Park on his new Black Market Roam trail bike.

The talented Highland Mountain Bike Park trail crew are hard at work revamping the new location for the mountain's jump park area. The first line debuted at this years Brodown Showdown along with a beginner line and start of the new pumptrack. Riders were on hand for a laid back jam filled with tricks and mini-contests like pumptrack races and some 'friendly' games of Foot Down, followed up by a session on the Red Bull Ayr Bag and Freebird jumps.

This past weekend, the guys at MTBVt.com, along with the Vermont Mountain Bike Associations, hosted the Green Mountain Showdown, showcasing different forms of media from local New England artists. Host and organizer Ryan Thibault asked me a few months back if I would submit a video, but as usual with my desk job and videos to finish for clients, I wasn't able to actually start (and finish) the video until 2 days before the contest. Barry Nobles takes home the victory ahead of Martin Soderstrom at the 2013 Speed and Style contest at the Sea Otter Classic. Riders compete head-to-head on a timed course with a trick jump. After a crazy, hectic week at Sea Otter, it's always a given that you can sit back, relax, and have a few beers while taking in some shredding by best dirt jumpers in the world at some of the best dirt jumps in the world. The future looks bright with so many stylish, flowing riders.

Highland Mountain Bike Park opened for the season and was blessed with gorgeous weather all weekend! The weekend was filled with fun events as Aaron Chase and Mike Montgomery were on hand for free Ayr Academy coaching on the trails and at the Ayr Bag. One Industries also sponsored a mountain-wide scavenger hunt as clues were given out via Instagram, capped off with the top prize of a full One Industries kit given to the rider with the strongest throwing arm as participants hurled a pair of knee pads for top speed!

Easton had recently announced a free program for a bearing spacer upgrade on certain hubs in their line to help prolong the life of the bearings. Their tech videos made it look way too easy, so Vital wanted to see how true this really was. In search for the least capable person to test this out, they found me! Highland Mountain Bike Park once again hosted Spring Training for the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour slopestyle season. Athletes from across the nation were invited for a week of training at Highland, as riders took advantage of the HTC and Ayr Bag to dial in new tricks and prepare for the upcoming FMB Season. The week's event was capped off with a Best Trick contest on Saturday, as riders opened their bag of tricks for spectators and threw down on Highland's signature slopestyle feature Freebird.
