Caught up with HMBP owner Mark Hayes before he headed up to the mountain for another day of preseason preparation! The mountain is opening on May 6th for season pass holders, and May 7th to the public!

Highland Mountain Bike Park is setting the stage for the 2011 season, opening the doors this weekend. Kicking off the season on Friday, May 6th for season pass holders and May 7th for everyone else! “We wanted to show our appreciation to our season pass holders. This past weekend was the official opening weekend for riders at Highland Mountain Bike Park. Record crowds were in attendance for the weekend, with a Season Pass Holder appreciation day on Friday, May 6th, public opening on May 7th. HMBP Sponsors GT and Cannondale were on hand demo-ing their freeride and DH line of bikes, along with GT/Cannondale Pros Mick Hannah, Andrew Cho, Eric Carter, Aaron Chase, and Chris Van Dine on site for group rides.

Had my first day of real testing with the Flycam Nano steadicam. The Claymore Challenge officially is under way on Wednesday, the riders have started to arrive and the Highland crew has been hard at work dialing in the course. The 4th Annual Claymore Challenge is in the record books, finally! After days of rain delays the riders and event promoter were not sure if the show would go on! But the combination of the dedication from the Highland Crew and with the motivation of the riders- it was pulled off and a winner was crowned! On the Sunday following the finals at the 2011 Claymore Challenge, Highland Mountain Bike Park hosted its first (of hopefully MANY) Battle of Hellion race! Pros ran a single run qualifier first, and then went up against 5 other riders per heat in a 6-man battle down Highland's infamous Hellion downhill jump trail.

As usual, the Highland Mountain Bike Park trail crew is always on the move creating new and exciting trails for everyone to enjoy. The latest addition, Pour Hour, gives riders a chance for some extended air time with a wooden curved wallride, a fade away cannon-style lauch, and some BIG table tops at the end. highlandmountain.com

Following the first Overmountain Enduro Race, Highland fired up the generators and rented flood lights so riders could partake in a twlight jam on the infamous Freebird jump on the Killicrankie slopestyle course!

As the 2011 season at Highland Mountain Bike Park comes to a close, we look back on an amazing season on the hill. The year flew by with a jam packed schedule of events, races, camps, and countless days of riding. Our fun take on the Bar Drag video contest. Ripping a 12" through berms, off camber roots, and rocky terrain is pretty amazing with only a rear coaster brake.
