Yes, currently it's just DT & Shimano but it's in Shimano's best interest to have more wheel/hub manufactures make Microdrive, I'm sure we'll see more, it just might take some more time... if not Interbike, then Sea Otter. The M9100 group won't be available till Fall anyways...

Not at all. All depends on the application/purpose. That said, people asking for better stuff then complaining it doesn't retro fit a bike/part from a decade or more ago is joke.
Note, I drive a Jeep Wrangler so I am very familiar with the old solid axle.

I am pretty sure that Shimano will be licensing the freehub body, not the whole hub, to those and other companies, so you will probably see a variety of microspline hubs shown at Interbike

Everyone has their own opinion about what the best drivetrain is—that's essentially what Shimano determined, they asked a whole bunch of racers what they wanted and determined there was no ONE unanimous winner so they created a couple options to satisfy a broader range of riders. If you don't want a front derailleur, I know I don't, then you don't need to buy one.

I think you misunderstood, what I meant to say was that on SRAM's high end kits you only have the 1X option—I was not talking about their budget options, which as you point out really do exist, NX Eagle is a great group/bargain!
