I've been dreaming of this style of XC (DC) rig for a while. I call it my "Mini-Slash" for enjoying some of the aggressive and rough XC trails the East coast has to offer. I've long felt the 120 rear is the sweet spot for these trails but love the extra commitment I can give with a 140 fork. Coil grip to give me that same feel as on the Enduro bike but on that super efficient platform.

Sweet build! Any reason that you decided to go with the 190x45 over the 185x50 shock? Also, Treks website says that you can only fit a 130mm fork on the top fuel, have you had any issues running the 140mm? Last thing, What was the mounting hardware used to mount the rear shock as I am thinking of doing a similar build to yours here.

Thanks! No worries for the questions, happy to answer them.

For the 2021 frameset the Topfuel used a 190x45 Shock, the newer 2022 & 2023 frames use a 185x50 trunnion mount shock. As such the mounting hardware matches the stock shock for the DB Coil.

The 130mm fork recommendation from Trek is because of the extra load on the headtube the longer lever of the fork causes. Two things allow me to trust the build, firstly the Fox 36 I'm using is only 6mm longer than the recommended axle to crown rather than the 10mm (130->140). Secondly I am an aggressive but light rider, the headtube shouldn't see the loads that would cause a headtube failure like other riders. Landing rear heavy, drops to flat, or casing a jump with the front wheel can all lead to those catastrophic failures. I don't plan to jump this bike much, if so they'll be fairly small. Most of my riding for this bike is technical natural terrain on the rougher XC side.
 

With that said, I haven't gotten any proper rides yet, setup feels great so far but it's winter here so I won't put it through it's paces until May or June 2023

Good to know about the fork situation as I am planning on using my build as a mini trail bike so I will stick with a 130mm fork. I have both a '22 top fuel 9.8 which I raced XC with this past season and a built slash but I am looking to sell my slash and build the tf into a gnarly short travel machine.

Rad! since I am headed off to college next fall I figured I'd drop down to just one bike and living in the mid-west, a slacked out top fuel will get the job done in almost every situation.
