Correct me if I'm wrong but...from what I've read, apparently the only difference in cage length is the slack in the chain resulting in different shifting times. I couldn't help but notice every downhill bike has the shorter cage rear derailleur. Does this play a role in jumping and handling big drops also?

I've had a NS bikes core 1 for a few months now and I'm looking to upgrade some of the parts. I like to freeride/downhill at an intermediate level and I'm expecting my bike to perform accordingly. I don't know a whole a lot about the brands out there or parts that should be upgraded when buying a "stock" bike...

I recently bought the 2012 NS Bikes Core 1 w/ Marzocchi 55R forks. Overall, they have been functional on the trails but the spring inside has been rattling around inside the fork. I don't know enough about the inner workings of the forks to know if this is a small or a serious problem and/or how to fix this. Anyone...

I appreciate the tips. I have avid elixir 1 brakes now, which seem to be alright for the riding I do now. As far as upgrading the drivetrain, are you referring to just the derailleur or the entire system (bottom bracket, cranks, chain-ring, etc)

That sounds rather complicated. Have you heard of using shrink wrap as a cheaper alternative to shrink fitting the spring assembly? Maybe we are talking about the same thing here.
