I wanted to get rid of my DH bike and replace it with a fun, park/freeride beast that I can still take trail riding. The Commencal Supreme SX fits the bill perfectly. Think roadtrips to Whistler while still being able to pedal up Lord of the Squirrels or trailriding in Squamish. Still learning the bike, but already has exceeded my expectations not just in descending, but climbing as well.
This bike actually climbs really well for what it is. Steep effective ST angle means you can just sit and spin. Descending...this really is something else. Descends better than my old Kona Operator! Still can climb almost anything, especially with the fork/shock in trail mode.
Compared to my Santa Cruz Hightower (large)...it certainly doesn't climb as efficiently, but the climbing position is more comfortable due to the steep seattube angle. Compared to my Proces 153, it pedals better...hands down. Probably due to said riding position.
Descending...there's no question how good it feels, absolutely incredible. Bumps just disappear with the high pivot. I don't notice any unusual behavior under braking...whatever the bike does, it feels suuuper stable. Especially landing jumps or charging through rough terrain.
All components are stock except for saddle, dropper, Light Bicycle Carbon wheels (38mm, 31.8mm internal) on Onyx hubs, Renthal Fatbar Carbon 780mm bars, and saddle.
Externally routed KS LEV for a few reasons: 1) I can run a 150mm post and slam it really low in the frame (Integra has a longer piece sticking out the bottom, and 2) I can remove the post and lever super easily for bike park days!
Added a fender for a Supreme SX (slightly modded/notched to allow chain to pass through in lowest gear). |
