BME #1, Angel Fire/Taos shuttled racers into the backcountry and up the longest lift in the U.S. for two days, five stages, and countless rock gardens at Angel Fire Bike Park, throwing every kind of riding at racers. The third round of the Big Mountain Enduro Series coincides with the second stop of the North American Enduro Tour, where the top guys and gals on the continent go head-to-head for points in both the overall BME Series and NAET. Keystone Bike Park is notorious for rough trails and exemplifies the downhiller's delight. Throw in a few pedal sections and over 2200' of vert every run, and you have the enduro masterpiece.
The second day of BME #3, Keystone proved to be even rougher than the first. Racers had to pull on the full-face, pads and give it their all. Those who came out on top say it was a true testament of the bike and body. Joey Schusler (Yeti Cycles) and Heather Irmiger (Trek Factory Racing) take the win for the weekend and top points for the second stop of the North American Enduro Tour and third stop of the Big Mountain Enduro Series.
The Big Mountain Enduro returns to the racing scene this Labor Day weekend with it's fourth stop of the series in Durango, Colorado. This weekend of racing is some of the most physically demanding days, racers have seen yet with very little shuttle assistance to climb to the top of Kennebec Pass to start the weekend with Stages 1 and 2 down the Colorado Trail, and on Sunday, all pedal transitions for Stages 3 and 4, closer to town. The Big Mountain Enduro visited Durango, Colo. for it's fourth stop, to take racers on an epic backcountry adventure through high alpine single track and rocky ridge lines. It was a test of the bike and the body to make it through four brutal stages that were physically demanding, technical, and just plain hard. The Big Mountain Enduro Series held its finals in Moab, Utah on September 28-29 as well as the finals for the North American Enduro Tour (N.A.E.T.) Racers were challenged to two days of epic trails, on classic Moab terrain and the world acclaimed "Whole Enchilada". From sub-freezing temps and snow to playing bikes in the desert, the BME finals embodied all types of riding to crown the top riders in North America.
The first day of BME #5, Moab sent riders down the Magificent 7 trails including Bull Run, Great Escape and Gold Bar. Local knowledge, bike handling, and being able to sprint out of technical corners were key to doing well on Saturday's courses. Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, Mike West and Nate Hills set the stage for Day 1 for the Pro Men field, and Heather Irmiger, Heidi Rentz and Rosara Joseph lay it all out for the Pro Women.
