May 13th and 14th brought the NW Cup back to always sunny Port Angeles, WA and this weekend didn't disappoint with the weather. Mid 70s and sun all weekend was a drastic difference from the rain during round 1. With more than 500 riders again, great weather, great vibes, and the infamous Dry Hill there were smiles everywhere.
The Pros and Cat 1 got to run the new trail (Aces High-Middle White Knuckle-Boombox-Salalad-Talladega), but in the dry this time, bringing the fastest time on the trail close top breaking the 2min mark. Cat 2 got to race the always fast, flowy, and fun Waynes World, Short Shorts, Heckler's Row, with a detour to an older trail - Camptown, with a finish on Lower Pro. Cat 3 got to enjoy the new Mini-muffins-Double Bypass-Lower White Knuckle-Talledega.
With the world cups coming just around the corner, some racers were out getting up to speed. With the likes of the Norco Factory team (Gracey Hemstreet, Mark Walla, Lucas Cruz), Finn Iles, Seth Sherlock, and Garbiel Neron (Canadian National Champion) there was a stacked field for the pros. Not to be out done, the amateur classes also came out in force with over 200 Cat 2 riders (51 Cat 2 15-16!!), and a deep cat 3 field all the way down to our boys 7 and under that had 8 riders.
