I’m headed to Oaxaca in December, not for a primarily-mountain biking trip, but bringing my bike and hoping to ride a fair amount while there.
It seems like a guide is kind of a must for anyone who isn’t a full-on local since a lot of trails are unmapped and/or pass through lands that require a permit or landowner/user permission. Does anyone have any recommendations for a guide in the area?
I’m hoping to ride solo (or with a small group) 2-3 mornings and one full day. I want to ride rowdy, steep shit and ride with a guide that can set a quick pace and doesn’t shy away rugged stuff; I -also prefer not to be held back by intermediate riders, but I know that is sometimes the nature of joining an open group. (Hence my interest in private guiding.)
Any recs? Or locals that would shuttle and show me around?
Transierra Norte are great and will take care of you. When we rode with them, we started in a big group and then split up with, I think, three different guides who catered to people’s preferences. I’d just let Buca and company know what you’re looking for, and they’ll take good care of you. Vibes at their HQ are also great with pre-ride coffee and food as well as post-ride drinks and hangs.
