I’m tinkering with my new RS Vivid Air and I’m wondering what the downside would be to run high speed compression wide open and the Hydraulic Bottom Out all the way on.
For those with HBO on an air shock, how do you think about the interplay between HSC and HBO?
HBO only comes into play the last 25% of travel.
HSC has an effect on the entire stroke during high speed shaft events. Its speed sensitive not position. So HSC could change the initial stroke speed or mid stroke or 75%.
Personally I’d adjust the compression clickers for 90% of your track, then HBO on the 1 or bottom out events you might have.
I have the Superdeluxe Ultimate coil with HBO and I have found that it actually feels a lot better running HSC only one click from fully closed, HBO totally clockwise, but with the spring set where I am getting that full 30% sag. A coil, especially the vivid with that top 10% being basically no damping, is going to blow through the stroke too quickly running the hsc wid open (i used to) and it ends up feeling harsher because you're constantly too deep in the stroke. With the air, it might be quite different but the best thing to do is try a lap with it wide open, then do the same track with it fully closed and you'll feel the difference of what it actually does a lot better
I ran it on the lowest HSC setting and +3 HBO and it did feel harsh and was too deep in the travel on rougher sections. Appreciate the tip and I can confirm the same is true on the Vivid Air - at least for me.
