My rear shock( X-Fusion O2 PRO RXC ) makes loud squelchy noises with a sandy feel and a bit of resistance when compressing. It loses about 70-100 PSI over 2 weeks and I only ride about 1-2 times per week. I got this bike used about 10 months ago and have not serviced it since and I do not know when the previous owner last. I do not know whether I need a full rebuild or if I should just replace the shock with a new one.
Basically, if your shock is making noises it usual doesn't or feels weird, it's rebuild time. It's unlikely it was serviced by the previous owner. Find your local service center and get them to freshen it up, it should be a regular maintenance item every 200h of riding but most people, unless they're racing or riding a lot do it every two years I find.
It definitely needs a full rebuild. What you're hearing is aeration, air mixing with the damper oil. Most full rebuilds are between $175-200. Id use the money towards a new shock instead. X-Fusion is a smaller brand, parts/service are more difficult to find, and the performance of that model specifically was never that good to begin with. Rockshox is your best bet for value/performance/ease of service.
