Will an Oval chainring work with my chain guide?

Hey y'all, I was wondering if you could help me out with something. I just bought a Wolftooth Oval chainring to try it out because I have heard some rave reviews from my riding buddies in the past about them. BUT I just realized that this new shape may not work with my current chain guide.

Have any of you run into problems with this setup? Please let me know, thanks!

That will depend entirely on the kind of chain guide that you use and whether or not it has a big enough range of adjustability. It would have to be high and rearward enough to clear the high spots on the ring. Io guess I'm just stating the obvious though, not trying to offend. Have you checked if Wolftooth make their own proprietary chain guide? Perhaps our friend from MRP could help us out?

Thanks for the suggestion, I believe I have enough adjustment available with my OneUp chain guide but there is only one way to find out for sure I guess! I'd like to at least give it a shot before having to buy another proprietary chain guide when the Oneup one works just fine.

Experimentation is what got mountain bikes to this awesome level. More will only make them better! Let us know how it goes.

Some information that hopefully will help.

A 32T oval ring typically gets as big as a 34T round. Meaning you would need to set the guide height for a 34T ring.

OneUps guides are Oval compatible, it will just need to be set up properly. With their guide, you should be able to run up to a 36T oval. Meaning, nearly all oval rings on the market *SHOULD* be compatible with your guide.

In other words, I think you will be able to get a set up you are happy with.
