Hello i have a 2011 giant reign 2 with the fox float 32 fork and fox float rp2 shock. I am wondering if anyone knows whats going on with my shock, the shock blows through its travel when going off of small drops and jumps max 2’ and when i am pedaling up hill it goes through all the travel with the pro pedal on. I have the sag set properly. Any information would be great. Thanks in advance.
One possibility is that your air pressure is just too low. Have you tried increasing the air pressure above what you think it should be and seeing what happens? Sag is a useful indicator but not a perfect standard for rear shock pressure. If adding more air helped, it would be the simplest and cheapest fix for the problem.
Or perhaps you have a pressure leak. If the shock hasn't been serviced recently, worn out air sleeve seals could be causing the shock to lose pressure after you set your sag. One way to check for leaks is to immerse the shock in water and carefully watch for any bubbles. If that's the problem, Fox air sleeve seals are pretty cheap and easy to replace.
But if the ProPedal lever is no longer having any effect at all, then the compression damper might be blown (worn out internal seals, broken shim, aeration of the oil, or something similar). A reliable local shop should be able to help evaluate the shock's damper functions if you aren't certain. Unfortunately, the RP2 dampers can only be serviced by a few third-party suspension specialists because Fox no longer provides support/parts--at least here in the US; the situation might be different in Canada. You should compare the price of a new or lightly used shock against the price of a damper rebuild to decide if that's worth it.
