Do I need to use the spacer on the Nukeproof spring?

Hi all,

I’ve just picked up a 210x55 Fox DHX2 for my frame and added a 2.2” stroke Nukeproof super light 500lb to it, it came with a 10mm spacer which I’ve installed with it (along with the reducers) and it had to be compressed in order to do the lock collar up.
Do I need the spacer?

It seems I could have happily fitted it without, just went with the recommendation of the CRC listing for the spring.

What does it really do?

if you have to compress the spring to fit the spacer then no, you don't need it.

If you are compressing the spring you increase the spring rate. Coils should only be preloaded enough to stop the spring moving around

You only need to fit reducers of ID as fox uses 35mm ID springs and nukeproof is 38mm.

Cheers both. Yes I put the reducers on but the spec sheet on the order page included “20mm spacer for metric shocks” but it’s right on the limit of even fitting. I’ll whip it off then, that was my first instinct but it’s nice to be confirmed. Cheers!! (Or thanks if you’re not British and don’t understand why I keep clinking beers with you)

Preloading the spring increases the force required to get the spring moving, but it doesn't change the rate of the spring.
