Hey Vital readers
Hayden here...I thought I'd share my insights on a pair of flat pedals shoes I've been running for the last 6 - 6.5 months.
I am an experienced rider and ride 5-6 times a week. I am 5.7" and weigh 160 pounds, bike is currently a SC 5010 with a Cascade Link with 160 up front / 150mm out back / Pedals are the Burgtec MK4s.
I have tried a lot of different shoes in my 22 years of riding...until now the following shoes have been tried and trusted.
- Shimano AM4
- Giro Jacket
- Five Ten Freeride and Freeride Pro
- until recently the Five Ten Sleuth (this was my favourite shoe).

Just to make things clear, I am not an enduro racer, and none of this information is relevant, I just wanna share my positive experience.
I stumbled across the Vans Old School BMX and I must say - these are by far the best shoes I have ever tries and I will highly recommend them.
A lot of the forums (Reddit.com for example) also mention Vans Old School, but never the BMX versions of the shoe - we must agree that the tricks and things that BMXers are doing these days is mind boggeling...
The Vans BMX Shoes are comfy, grippy and have great cushioning...here are some pics of the shoes so far.
Feel free if you have any other ideas for good shoes.

Flats provide way more horizontal pivot grip than clips(because of float) and that leads to knee issues, i swap back an forth between flats and clips and i get odd knee feelings in flats (kinda like it needs to "click" mid way through a ride)
I pretty much think the the whole Flats vs Clicks discussions have been covered (numerous of times)...
I always though that the other brands were good (not saying that Vams are the best here)..but either you sacrifice grip for breathabilty / or looks for durability.
Its really like buying a bike, light and expensive or heavy and cheap > pick two!!
I ride alot, roughly 6 days a week and the Vans are looking good and my feedback is positive > always have been a Vans fanboy
Like the saying goes - different strokes for different folks.
Post a reply to: ..not another MTB flat pedal shoe debate!!!
