Vids don't load on iPhone with current ios , nor on Android tablet with 4.2.2. Adobe doesn't officially support the flash plugin but I downloaded the one that is supposed to help with obsolete site software like vital's but it didn't fix it.

Since I can load vids on pretty much all sites I'm interested in except yours I thought I'd see if you guys are addressing this issue. Thx.

Sorry about the problems you're having. I can watch videos on my iPhone just fine, so it's not a general issue. Are you using the Safari browser? Please post links to a couple of the videos that aren't working for you.

no need to post links to the videos -- there's not a single video on your site that has ever loaded on any mobile device in my house including my girlfriends iphone and tablet (and mine, as described above). all our mobile devices run videos just fine on any site you can think of (pinkbike, comedy central, news sites etc). on apple devices we are using the current iOS and Safari. on Android tablets we are using Chrome. I thought this was common knowledge at vitalmtb -- I've asked random guys on chairlifts at Mammoth and they've said they have issues seeing vids on this site (but that was a year ago) but, like me, only on mobile devices.

'plug in not supported' is the error message. from what I can tell, it's related to the Flash arch you guys use. the normal advice on mobile tech forums is to manually install a legacy flash player...here's the page that I used last month: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.h… ... since Adobe no longer supports this stuff. update: looks like Adobe is updating that page.

A couple of years ago there were plenty of sites that had this same flash vid on mobile devices issue (e.g. COmedy CEntral) but over time they've fixed it, so I just kept checking back here occasionally to see if it had been fixed too.

btw videos embedded in advertisements on your site view just fine. it's just the content videos on your "Video' pull down menu that don't load on the mobile devices I have access to.

Our videos will use Flash if a device has it, but default to the built-in video player if Flash is not detected. That part seems to not be working for you. Let me check with one of our developers to see if he has any thoughts.

Since you mention the video pull-down menu, I'm assuming that you are viewing the desktop version of our site (www, not m) on your phone. Even so, devices without Flash should still play directly as an MP4 file when clicked. Please load this test page on your phone and send me a screenshot of the results. For example, on my iPod I see the following:

This will help narrow down the cause of your issue. Thanks.

on my google android 4.2.2 tablet just now, I double checked just now and Yes the forum auto loads as the desktop version (i..e no 'm' in the url), and Yes there is a pulldown video menu, and yes when I clicked on your test link I got the exact same message you have in your screen shot above. and if i try playing any video on your site on my android tablet I get the 'this plug-in is not supported' error message.

just now I clicked your test page link on my iphone (iOS 7.1.1, Safari) and I got the exact same message you have in your screen shot above there as well.

Not sure how motivated I am to trouble shoot this with you since my android and apple devices work fine with videos on every site on the internetz other than yours. But I'll check back here today.

If the device you are using does not support Flash, you should not be seeing anything to do with Flash (i.e., 'this plug-in is not supported') since it checks for it ahead of time. This URL, for example, renders with HD and Standard buttons on my iPod, Android phone, and iPad, and as a Flash player in my desktop browser, and does for everyone else I've had test. Are you seeing the same plug-in support message when viewing that URL on your iPhone?

Yep that url works great on my iPhone. I'll try it on my tablet later tonight.

...and now the vids on your main video page also play fine on my iPhone. They didn't yesterday. Interesting.

OK that URL you posted above also works on my tablet. That vid plays fine.

But the vids on your main page still give that 'plug in not supported' error message on my tablet.

Add'l update on android tablet: as already stated above, vital defaults to the desktop version on this slate8 pro tablet, so I manually selected the mobile version. Now The Schladming video loads and plays fine since it becomes an embedded YouTube video. But the head to head video with Atherton generates a 'device doesn't support Flash' error.

Some videos on Vital are embedded from outside sources. The Atherton/Manon video you mention is a Redbull hosted video, and their player does unfortunately use flash when embedded.

frorider: What Brandon mentioned is correct - there are some third-party embedded videos that have no Flash alternative. If there are Vital videos (non-embeds) where you are seeing this plug-in message on your tablet, please post the links here and I'll investigate. Thanks.

All vids on red bull.com that I've tried load fine on this tablet. As expected, since i can watch action sports videos on every site on the internetz no problem.

Eg.http://www.redbull.com/cs/Satellite/en_INT/Video/martin-soederstroem-ba…

On Vital: Alex Organ gives flash player error. Same with Specialized Leogang,
36 Returns, Suzuki Nine nights (but utube version below main version works), making fast go faster, ....

I'm also having the same issue with my iPad.

The fact that Red Bull videos play on their own site is completely independent from whether they play when embedded elsewhere, as they likely have code on their site (detecting the viewing device and determining how to render the video) that does not occur when the video is embedded in an iframe elsewhere.

Our videos, along with YouTube and Vimeo embeds, are known to render non-Flash versions when on tablets and mobile devices. Any others may or may not work on these devices, depending on how the embed origin site handles embeds. Are you referring to a video other than ours, YouTube's, or Vimeo's?

Richiebankrupt, I think the key here is to outsmart the vitalmtb default to desktop version on tablets (at least the tablets I've looked at, and maybe yours). if you scroll down to the bottom and manually select 'mobile' version of the site on your iPad, then at least the youtube and vimeo hosted vids on vitalmtb should work fine.

I prefer teh look & feel of the desktop version of vital on my android tablet, but since the only way to get the videos to play is to switch to the mobile version of vital, that's my workaround for now.

Using your tablet, please retry viewing embedded videos on the desktop version of the site, specifically YouTube, Vimeo, and Red Bull (which may or may not work depending on the embed code type), and let me know if you are still encountering issues with them. If you are, post the URL(s) here and I'll look into. Thanks.

Thanks for the response, it appears that I've resolved the issue. Please confirm when you have a moment.

Sweet. All 3 of those vids work fine on my tablet in desktop version of vital. Welcome to 2013, Vitalmtb.

Great, glad to hear. It must have been an infrequent scenario for most, since typically I hear about things like that right away. Whatever the case, it's dialed now. If you encounter anything similar again, please let me know. Thanks.
