Red Bull Final Descent 2011 - Jackson Hole

Looks like Jackson Hole is hosting a Final Descent event this year. Goes down Saturday, August 27.

Most laps in a 12 hour period. Can ya handle that?

$5,000 cash purse plus gear from Troy Lee Designs and Oakley.

The overall series winners—the male and female rider who posts the most laps combined for all events—takes home an additional $500 and ultimate end-of-season bragging rights.

As a Jackson resident we can genuinely say "we're confused". We have a bike park but its all of 300 vertical feet. Maybe less. There is awesome stuff on the pass for an event like this but no way would the Forest Service allow it nor would the trails handle that sort of traffic.

We are awaiting word from JHMR as to where/how this will go down but unless new trails are opened for it get ready for a dizzying number of laps to be ridden...

Hurrah for locals! You nailed it. The point is to do laps. Most laps wins. Do a google search for Red Bull Final Descent. This is the 3rd year of the series. There are races at Winter Park, CO (Sept 10th and Angel Fire, NM (Oct 15th). At most races 30+ laps have been done in the 12 hr period. This event is is a good time especially if you ride as a duo or team because then it is like a social event at the base, and hey it's Red Bull which means it will off the top. I rode in the Angel Fire NM, what a course they have. You should give it a try.

Mike, no disrespect was intended. You have illustrated our confusion perfectly. Both Angelfire, NM and Winter Park, CO have well built trails that are well over 1000 vertical feet (actually, 2000 vertical feet). Jackson's bike park, although a great start, is nowhere near this length. Laps are well under 2 minutes and the total vertical is somewhere around 300 feet (maybe). If a trail is built for the event off a different chair with more vertical, this will be AWESOME. If it is utilizing existing trails and the Teewinot chair, it's going to be very different than your other events.

30 Laps may be the winning number in Angelifre or Trestle but in Jackson, you are looking at well over 100 laps on a very short course. Any chance you'll be building a new course?
