So, there are a LOT of Olympic events that seem ridiculous to me. Like horse dancing (or “dressage” if you went to a prep school.)
DH seems like much better sport to showcase on a global stage, unless you have summer games located in areas without mountains…
But would the quadrennial bacchanalia that is the Olympics help or hinder downhill?

I personally think DH would be a horrible summer Olympic sport. Usually the summers don't match up with mountainous locations. We don't need another Calgary world Cup (I can see the 150m mound they races on on my drive home every day) every summer. And things could get weird regulations wise when I comes to world cups. No one want more watered down DH. It took XC over 20 years to shake what the Olympics did to it starting in 1996 with their dirt highway in Atlanta. All I can imagine is people ending up racing Enduro bikes down a half assed man made track.
However, Slalom, 4X or some kind of GS style event is a bit more in the realm of possibility. Maybe even slopestyle since skate and BMX freestyle seems to have gone over well. They all just fit the format better than DH and don't require as specialized a location. The last few and up coming summer Olympic events would be terrible DH locations but amazing for the other MTB events that aren't so location dependant for a proper race to properly show off the sport.
